Conservation Commission
The Conservation Commission is responsible for the protection and management of Norwell’s Conservation land and for the administration of the Massachusetts Wetlands Protection Act, the Norwell Wetland Bylaw, and the Norwell Stormwater Management Bylaw. The Conservation Commission serves these primary purposes:
1. To administer and enforce the state Wetland Protection Act, the Norwell Wetland Bylaw, and the Norwell Stormwater Management Bylaw.
2. To manage: approximately 2000 Acres of Open Space Public Lands, 20+ Miles of Public Trails, 15 Active Farm Fields, 11 Conservation Restrictions, 9831 Feet of Scenic Stone Walls.
3. To conduct outreach and education regarding the town's natural resources, and environmental issues.
Protect the water you drink, and the natural resources around you!
To better understand the resources on or near your property, please feel free to contact the Conservation Department. The team offers personalized assistance with permitting issues, environmental concerns, or simply creating a unique GIS map for your property. Assistance is also available regarding information on public lands or trails. Anyone contemplating work in or within 100 feet of a wetland, within 200 feet of a stream, which flows continuously throughout the year, or work that would add new impervious surface or disturb land 1,500 square feet or greater, is encouraged to contact the Agent for information about the Wetlands Protection Act, the local wetland bylaw, and the local stormwater bylaw at the Commission’s office in the Town Hall during normal business hours.
