What chemicals are safe to use near a wetland?

The use of chemicals, including herbicides, pesticides or fertilizers, within jurisdictional resource areas or the 50-foot no disturb resource buffer for any resource areas is likely to have a significant adverse impact on those area. Using chemicals to solve one problem can often result in unintentional damage to other species.  Chemicals seeping into groundwater can travel significant distances and can affect drinking water supplies.  The Commission encourages prior review and approval before using chemicals in these areas. MSDS sheets and other data showing toxicity to humans, wildlife and aquatic life should be obtained and understood before utilizing any chemicals near where your family and pets work and play.  In almost all circumstances, slow release and/or organic/natural versions are preferable.
