Permitting & Fees

BUILDING PERMITS are required for: New Construction, Renovations, Remodeling, Additions, Re-roofing, New Siding, New Windows and Doors, any alterations that involve structural work, Trenches, Mechanical/Sheet Metal (HVAC). With respect to New Construction (Residential and/or Commercial), completion of the "PLAN REVIEW RECORD" is required to be submitted with the building permit application. Copy of license as well as Certificate of Liability Insurance must accompany the applicationNOTE: NEW ENERGY STRETCH CODE FOR RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL IN EFFECT.

WIRING PERMITS are needed for any work involving the wiring of any project. This includes low voltage work, such as; Alarm systems, Site lighting, and other low voltage uses. When applying for a generator permit, a mandatory Generator Worksheet is required. Copy of license as well as Certificate of Liability Insurance must accompany the application. **Once you apply for a permit it can take up to 2 working days for us to review before issuing a permit**

PLUMBING AND/OR GAS PERMITS are needed for any plumbing/gas changes made to existing systems and any new work. Copy of license as well as Certificate of Liability Insurance must accompany the application.* Please see attached for Plumbing & Gas Provisions*

**Work that requires a gas permit and includes or affects new or existing propane tanks will require a fuel storage permit (Issued by Norwell Fire Department), we ask that applicants attach a copy of the new or existing fuel storage permit(s) to their application for a gas permit to ensure that tanks are placed on the property by an authorized installer under a compliant Fire Department fuel storage permit; also, to ensure that trades people/applicants do not attach their work to unauthorized tanks**

**Propane tanks or equipment/fixtures/devices, etc. cannot be permanently mounted/installed within 10 feet of a property boundary or setback per the Zoning by law**
